There's more to Mornacott...

Nestled on the edge of Exmoor, Mornacott exudes a tranquil calm that refreshes the spirit of all who visit. The plummeting valleys, ancient droveway, rushing streams and the rugged River Yeo all contribute to create a delicate rural infrastructure which captivates the soul.

The original dwelling, of which parts remain, dates back to 1286 although earlier references show that Mornacott has been inhabited since Saxon times and the adjacent Hill Fort and battlements prove occupation since the 5th Century BC.

Today Mornacott has become a complex countryside organisation supporting several rural businesses with those who work on the estate holding it in trust for future generations.

Our mission is both to care for the surrounding countryside and to improve and enhance the environment in which we are privileged to live and work.

Farming....at the heart of everything we do

Over 600 acres of the farm are dedicated to enhancing the natural environment, our low input permanent pasture and low density stocking with cattle and sheep allow for the needs of an abundance of all forms of wildlife including many traditional wild birds, invertebrates, small mammals and Roe and Red Deer. This creates both harmony with the environment and ensures that our cattle and sheep are naturally reared to the best standards.

Stay at Mornacott

Come and stay in one of our three exquisite holiday cottages. Painstakingly converted from old farm buildings, long since redundant for modern farming use, our 4 Star (Gold Award) and 5 Star Cottages provide the perfect base for exploring the dramatic Devon coastline, Exmoor National Park, unspoiled sandy beaches and the numerous attractions for young and old alike. A rural haven away from the frantic crowds yet surprisingly close to many local attractions and facilities.

Shooting parties and more...

From the top of Clover Down, one of Mornacott's original drives, one can look north to see the stunning scenery of Exmoor and South towards Dartmoor National Park. Mornacott offers shooting over some 1,400 acres with over 23 drives catering for all levels of experience and most shooting tastes from the stunning high birds of the Miscombe and Oakham drives, to the quintessential Devon partridges offered at Langham, leisurely acquired pheasants at the Lake to the quick snap shooting required in Westerwood and on the Helm's Deep drives.
